The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a global youth development program, empowering young Australians aged 14 to 24 to explore their full potential regardless of their location or circumstance.
The Award program is one of individual challenge. It presents young people with a program of voluntary activities that encourage personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility, and service to the community. Each person who does the Award learns a skill, becomes more physically active, volunteers in their community and undertakes a team adventure. For the Gold Award they also undertake a purposeful activity in a residential setting in the company of others who are not their usual companions. The award is available at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels, each progressively longer and more challenging. Each of these levels consists of four core Sections:
- Physical Recreation
- Skills,
- Voluntary Service
- Adventurous Journey
With the Gold Award having an additional required Section – the Gold Residential Project. Participation is entirely voluntary and is structured so Participants can design their own unique program centered around their interests and passions. Students are welcome to stop at any level and do not have to progress all the way through to Gold. After completing each award the students will receive recognition for that award.
