“Life without playing music is inconceivable to me. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music… I get most joy in life out of music.”

Einstein

Music is a multifaceted art form, and building on the sequential learning experience from Early Learning through the Primary School and into the High School, the application of both singing and instrumental skills is an essential construct of the Stages 4 to 6 Music Curriculum.

In order for students to develop their musical skills and knowledge in a more cohesive and sequential way, the IGS Music Department continues to “speak the same language” and, building on from the Music Literacy Program, the Kodály approach solidifies students’ knowledge and understanding of pitch and rhythm.

The method requires careful repetition and the slow unveiling of new musical concepts, resulting in deeper learning and greater engagement in Stage 4 as fundamental learning in preparation for the Music Elective courses offered across Stages 5 and 6.
